SEPTEMBER
- 2006 NEWSLETTER
WE NEED YOUR MONETARY SUPPORT NOW
|
Dear
Friends :
Thanks
to everyone who responded to our last newsletter. I'm really overwhelmed
by some of the remarks I got..
In the last 8 years this is the toughest phase for GOONJ. From
the beginning we have never asked for money, instead we developed
this as a people's movement. The concept has grown; so has the
awareness about GOONJ. The media has started paying attention
to our work and the development sector is also slowly waking up
to recognize clothing as a matter of concern. The inflow of material
has grown many folds while the demand is still more, coming even
from unheard of remote places.
All
good things… but now comes the question of expansion, scaling
up and more importantly using our full potential and optimally
exploiting the systems we have developed over the years. Anything
underutilized just because of lack of bare minimum resources is
certainly hurting and this is becoming the case here…
THIS is a direct appeal for resources- financial, infrastructure,
sponsorships, vehicle, monthly commitment, yearly commitment..
Whatever suits you in whatever manner or quantity.
More
on the activities of GOONJ in the newsletter…
Happy reading…
Anshu

- GOONJ's
clean cloth sanitary napkin project is fast gaining
momentum. Initial implementation in Firozabad (UP) has been very
encouraging. There is a sharp increase in demand from the villages.
We urge every women reader of this mail to commit at least one
meter of new cloth every month apart from your old cotton clothes.
Spread the message among your friends, colleagues & relations
too. This will
certainly make a big difference to the lives of women who are
forced to use the worst available cloth or in some cases even
sand/ash for this purpose. For more details-

Cloth for work – adding dignity to cloth
donation : Together with our partner groups we
have initiated many development activities in villages across
the country where the villagers get clothes instead of money for
their labour. In Maharashtra it was recently launched in 58 tribal
villages of Melghat with Ashoka Fellow Kishore Rithe. Villagers
have already developed the boundry wall for a school building.
Plantation drives, repairing of roads are some of the other activities
being taken up.
