Please refer Link on Sunderbans, West Bengal, ravaged by cyclone Aila recently. Not much is being reported about this massive disaster affecting a number of islands and other parts of West Bengal.

Over 100 deaths, about 9 million people severely affected, over a million houses uprooted - these are just some of the figures of a disaster which washed away about 500 kilometers of embankment throughout Sunderbans.

In a recent visit, apart from glimpses of a large-scale devastation, the most striking was to see how our boat was making its way in the middle of carcasses of thousands of dead animal's scattered all across the rivers and fields. This heavy loss of livestock is a clear indication of the scale of the disaster ..

We have already started our campaign by sending two trucks of essential material. Please take this as an URGENT APPEAL to join GOONJ in its campaign 'RAHAT CYCLONE' to provide support to the victims of this widespread disaster.

Do visit GOONJ's work in Bihar to get a glimpse of our Bihar Flood relief campaign after the August 2008 floods. Over 1500 tones of material in 200 remote villages followed by a lot of development activities, GOONJ's 20-member full time team is making its best efforts and will remain in the field till March 2010.

Transportation of material from different cities to GOONJ processing centers in Delhi, Chennai & Mumbai
