Don’t pack your unwanted woolens..
|
|
Dear
Friends :
It was heartening to listen to
volunteers narrate their experiences of covering hundreds of homeless
people on the roads in the winter nights. Thanks to all who responded
to my mail on this issue. With a huge collection of blankets and
woolens our winter campaign really became a successful exercise.
As winters come to an end you must be busy packing your woolens.
Just to reiterate my appeal: PLEASE DON’T
PACK AWAY YOUR UNWANTED WOOLENS. Right now is the best
time to reach it to us so that next winters we can reach this to
people well on time. Please remember that by the time the woolens
are discarded in places like Delhi, half the winters are over in
many states where it sets in much earlier.
A Big thanks to all who voted for GOONJ.. and helped
us win the prestigious Changemakers award for the
second time for our entry on meeting disaster

7th anniversary of GOONJ.. -
On 18th feb, 2006 GOONJ celebrated its seventh anniversary with
a small celebratory get together of well wishers, partner groups
and volunteers from all walks of life. The occasion took an emotional
turn as Habib (the abandoned dead body picker), the person whose
story is an inspiration for GOONJ, shared his bitter-sweet experiences
with the gathering.
A lot of volunteers and well-wishers recollected their association
with GOONJ going back to the initial challenging years.

-
PRATIBIMB
(School Event) - Many S2S partner urban schools and students
have expressed a desire to meet the rural children benefiting
from material they collect. Responding to this idea, GOONJ..
is hosting a 3-days interface event ‘PRATIBIMB’
in Delhi. Students from remote village schools of Orissa, West
Bengal, Tamil Nadu Uttranchal any many other states will be
interacting with children from schools of Delhi and NCR. GENPACT
is sponsoring this event.
- TEAM
600 - GOONJ is taking
a step forward to reinforce its self-sufficiency in terms of funding.
We are on a lookout for just 600 people who become the base of
our financial strength.
- GOONJ’s
Tsunami Waste Cloth Project; Looking at our sustained
efforts to turn this huge waste into a resource for the rest of
the country, Deutshe Bank has come forward to support this project.
Earlier this year a large quantity of this material benefited
the victims of Kashmir & Pakistan earthquake & flood victims
in Tamil Nadu. This has also reached thousands of Tsunami affected
people living in temporary shelters and to many other states,
helping people during extreme winters. The process of converting
the completely un-wearable cloth into school bags, mats, sanitary
napkins and other products has also begun.
- Vehicle
& Space Requirement in Mumbai; As we focus on intensifying
our campaign in Mumbai and its neighboring areas, a vehicle for
material pick up, space for office and store in Mumbai is still
a major hindrance. If you have any ideas/contacts on this please
write/call us at the earliest.
